DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 993 marked "Special," 21J, 16S, gold-filled HC recase with attractive vertical striped engraving detail, "O.B. Allan, Vancouver, B.C." marked white enamel SS dial with Canadian market 13 to 24 hour indications, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, ornate two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#743307. Comes with a fitted Hamilton marked box of more modern vintage, with upper lid plaque engraved with initials. A beautiful and rare movement, this example is listed in the Hamilton ledger as having been sold on February 24th, 1917 to Jonas Koch (a New York City jeweler) and is from a group of 50 serial numbers (743301 to 743350) that are listed as "Non-Retailing Spec. Fin." (special finish). From the collection of Charlie Winters.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent two-tone color, scratch at perimeter of barrel bridge in space between s# and larger winding wheel; dial with very short perimeter hl at 2, short fine scratch below seconds-register at 6, mild beveling wear of perimeter edge under dial; excellent hands, hour and minute are plum colored, seconds-hand is blue; case front opens a small bit wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 100 degrees), case shows hardly any wear, numerous nicks to reeding of band at 10 to 10:30, crisp engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal. Box shows very little wear, some mild exterior dings and nicks, lower padded portion with some play within box.
